Vacation rentals with organic and healthy environment
For your comfort and your health, we are creating and restoring our vacation rental apartments (also called gites in France) with healthy and organic components delivered by local craftsmen and resources. The wood panels on the wall are created in the traditional local way. Wood is coming from the forests growing on the Vosges mountains above Riquewihr. As in old times, the woodden boards are of different widths, according to the diameter of the trees they came from. Before they were tinted, woods were nourished with a lasure made with plants. The paintings, waxes and oils we used are natural and organic.The carpets of the bedrooms is a weaving of wool and flax. When you will walk barefoot on the cork ground of the bathroom (in our two bigger apartments Le Colombier and the Sentinel), you will feel warm. The fabrics - primarily of flax woven by hand - come for the majority from Gander Weavings close to Sélestat… The lamp-shades were handmade. Lastly, to restore this so particular Alsatian environment as well as possible, the pieces of furniture are genuine Alsatian antiques.
 Our vacation rentals on the French TV: Ma Maison pour l'Avenir -  This Summer, our house Le Colombier in Riquewihr was presented by the very successful TV programme MA MAISON POUR L'AVENIR (My House for the Future, dedicated to environment friendly places) on the major French TV channel TF1. - Wednesday July 3, 2008, TF1 broadcasted a video about our wood pellets fireplace available in our Le Colombier house in Riquewihr. | We wanted to offer our guests, not only a roof, a bed and a chair, but much more than what they would usually find in a self catering flat. I am sure that if we speak about restaurants, everybody would understand the difference between a fast food and a Michelin star restaurant. Both of them are providing meals. But... different meals! We think that - especially for a rather long stay (most of our guests are staying 7 nights and +) - it is not enough to sleep well during the night but it is necessary to enjoy the stay in a place which is somehow of the same level as the historical surroundings, the landscape, the mountain and the vineyards: beautiful. A place where you like to have a rest and enjoy some time, not only a place for sleeping. We cared for the health of our guests, using only organic products. We paid respect to the history of the place and the local traditions. All furniture are genuine antiques. And finally, we added all the modern touch and comfort: quality and natural materials, air conditioning, large TV in the lounge (a 122 cm screen in Le Colombier house) + one in each room, free internet in all apartments and even a computer in the largest one (Le Colombier), Nespresso coffee maker, etc. A special service room accessible by the guests of all apartments provides an american fridge with large cooling space, deep freezer and... ice making machine! You will also find a washing-drying machine. |
